A good old Italian Sub is among the favorites at Maceri’s Soup & Scoop, Pitas & Subs. Starting with our Italian sub by the foot at Maceri’s Fruit Market back in 1984, we realized that a sub made with quality meats and cheeses and great produce was hard to find. Anthony created his secret recipe for catering out of our deli. He also made individual subs loaded with quality. The pita original was created in 1986. Pitas and Subs now come in a variety of 32 choices. Some of the favorites include Steak & Cheese and Grilled Chicken in many varieties, Breakfast Pitas, our homemade Corned Beef including Reubens, Turkey, and our Italian Pita and Sub. Pizza subs and pitas are also a favorite. They can also be made open face pita or sub made with our homemade pizza sauce. Subs are also available by the foot for any occasion. We also cater fresh salads, pasta, meatball, potatoes, vegetables, Italian Sausage, Italian breaded chicken with homemade ammoglio, cakes, and ice cream cakes.

Maceri’s Pasta Sauce is founded on Italian tradition. Grandma Angelina had an Italian restaurant where her sauce was famous. Growing up living with my grandma, cooking and baking was instilled in me. I can remember back to the age of 6 rolling out the Italian cookie dough. Everyday was a lesson on cooking. Getting married at the age of 18, grandma made sure I knew the secret of her pasta sauce. Over the years friends and family have mentioned that I should jar it. Well, that is in the plan, but for now we serve it in our soup rotation as a side and can be taken home by the quart. It is also available for catering along with our famous meatballs, breaded chicken with homemade ammoglio, Italian sausage, roast beef, salads, pitas, subs, and over 150 varieties of homemade soups.

Growing up living with her Grandma gave her the aspiration and knowledge to make that dream a reality. Lori’s great grandma, Angelina, had a restaurant in Detroit in the 1940’s; she wanted to create something that brought those times back.” She started making soups at Tom Maceri’s Fruit Market on Detroit’s eastside back in 1984. That is also where their subs were first created including “For Real Vegetable” which has over 30 vegetables in it. Italian flare is also among the soup rotation including Maceri’s Pasta Sauces, Angelina’s Minestrone™, Stracciatella, & Pasta Fagioli.
Famous among friends and family for her soups and pasta sauces, serving from a list of over 150 varieties, Lori says she wanted to bring that homemade touch to the business and provide a different option for Metro Detroit in a comfortable restaurant setting with reasonable value and pricing. In 1984, President Ronald Regan declared July as National Ice Cream Month, with the third Sunday in July to be National Ice Cream Day. It is the same year Ashby’s was created. In celebration of summer and ice cream, on July 18 from 12pm-6pm, Maceri’s Soup & Scoop®, Pitas & Subs will be offering scoops of ice cream at vintage prices. Their small kiddie scoop, which is actually a double scoop, will be $.50. Maceri’s Soup & Scoop® has received awards for their Milkshakes and Tornado® Shakes, which are extraordinary thick shakes you eat with a spoon. They are like soft serve in a cup made with premium ice cream.
Ashby’s was recently on the Foodnetwork Unwrapped, “The Ice Cream Dream”. It is a Michigan company created by the Davis family from Tom Davis Dairy.
